How To Replace A Kitchen Sink ?

During the remodeling of your kitchen and the associated plumbing system, it is always wise to get the replacement of the kitchen sink done along with the entire operation.

Removing the old sink and putting a new one in place is not a daunting task. Keeping the right logic and the required plumbing tools in tact, the whole task can be limited to a one-day project only.

Before you start to remove the old sink it is always a good idea to develop a rough picture of the new sink as well. Keeping the space requirements in mind, measure the dimensions of the old sink in order to determine the size of the new sink. Also allow a local salesperson to recommend you a particular type of sink based on your need and taste. Most popular sinks are the stainless sinks due to their resistivity to corrosion and external agents such as air and water. Also they fit well in the mold of the counter top.

Alternatively porcelain sinks with their heavy weights and no additional clips can be bought as well. The problem with the porcelain sinks is that they rise above the surface of the counter top due to their rising edges and hence wiping the debris from the counter top into the sink becomes difficult.

After making a decision on the size and type of the new sink, start the real task by turning off the valve of the sink. Remove the drainage pipe and the other associated plumbing components from under the sink with the help of wrenches and screwdrivers.

Once the plumbing associations are dissociated from the sink, clear off the plaster and cement from the edges of the sink to loosen the structure. You may require the hammers and pliers to accomplish this part of the project.

Take out the sink from the fixture by pushing it upwards. Take it out slowly and place it in a convenient location. Insert the new sink into place and attach clips to it.

Plaster the setup well and turn on the water supply to the sink.
